In April 2022, R&D Test Systems welcomed Christian Athit Bak Christensen. Christian joins a specialist position, where he will primarily use his competencies to support, consult and develop our customers' projects within the wind industry. Despite Christian finishing his master's degree in 2020, he already has plenty of useful knowledge and experience in aeroelasticity, fluid mechanics, and dynamical systems.

"When Christian applied unsolicited at the beginning of 2022, we were immediately confident that he should be part of our team, as he, with his unique and sharp profile, will contribute with useful perspectives and expertise," explains Filip Westarp, Team Manager at R&D Test Systems.

Why did you choose to apply at R&D Test Systems?

Christian was in a situation where he and his girlfriend wanted to move from Copenhagen back to Jutland. "I had a lot of thoughts about whether I should continue as a consultant or apply for a job with one of the leading wind turbine manufacturers," says Christian.

"At R&D Test Systems, I will be able to continue to work with some of the same tasks that I have previously had. It also means that I have already been in contact with some of the customers I have previously worked with," explains Christian.

"I got an excellent impression of R&D Test Systems, and it is a company where I am allowed to continue as a specialist. I really like to be nerdy and go in-depth with things, which I have the opportunity to do so here," says Christian.

Christian also mentions the flat organizational structure, which implies that you can always discuss or get help from colleagues at R&D Test Systems. "Although I would like to work with aeroelasticity, fluid mechanics, vibrations, and mass dampers, it is exciting to be part of a company that develops projects from beginning to end. There are a lot of skilled engineers who are good at different things. This means that we can learn from each other," explains Christian.

"In addition, the social aspect is also important to me. I have been very well welcomed, and I often have colleagues who come to hear if everything is good and if I have some exciting tasks. Now I'm just looking forward to participating in the many events that R&D Test Systems arranges," says Christian.

Specialist Engineer - Mechanical

What is Christian's background?

Christian is originally from Randers, where he already had an interest in physics and mechanics during his high school years. Therefore, he applied for a bachelor's degree in physics at Copenhagen University. Christian's interest in mechanics and aerodynamics led him to choose a graduate in Wind Energy from DTU. Here he specialized in CDF and numerical modelling of dynamical systems interacting with fluid flows. "I do not have the exact same academical background as many other mechanical engineers. But this means that I sometimes see the problems from a different perspective," says Christian.

In addition to the master's program, Christian also worked as a student assistant at Svend Ole Hansen ApS. Here he assisted in carrying out tasks primarily related to operation of the wind tunnel, building scale-models and preparing flow/dynamical experiments of various kinds, involving measurement apparatus such as anemometers, force tranducers, and accelerometers. As a fully trained mechanical engineer from DTU, Christian was later employed as a consultant at Svend Ole Hansen ApS. Here, he worked with wind engineering and vibrations of grand structures such as bridges, buildings, and offshore wind turbines, until he started at R&D Test Systems.
